Working on a Friends Layout
In September 2024 I was asked by a friend if I could help revitalise and complete a layout he had in the loft. Due to ill health the owner had not been able work on it for three years.
As you can see from the initial pictures it had become more of a storage area, than a working layout.
The first thing we had to do is clear the space so I could see the wood from the trees.
This meant clearing all the tabletops and under the baseboards so I could get at the tracks and wiring.

On initial inspection I found that the majority of rails were rusted and not fixed down, also most of the point motors had seized up. As with most layouts there was no record of where the wires went and how they were connected. We all suffer from the same problem because as you wire items you know what you are doing so there is no point in keeping a record.
A little more difficult for someone new to come in and figure it out.
